Willem Venter

Qualifications: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder; Chartered Accountant (SA); Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA); M Com (Finance)

Willem Venter joined Prescient Securities at the start of 2007 as head of the Equities Division, with responsibility for equity research and trading. At the start of November 2007 he was appointed CEO.

Willem acquired his grounding in stockbroking at UBS, an international investment bank, as the banks' South African platinum equity analyst. His working experience has broadly been in the field of finance. Willem started his working career in 1995 as an audit clerk with Deloitte and Touche. He has also worked at the University of Johannesburg lecturing finance at honours and masters degree level, the Industrial Development Corporation of SA as a project financier, and Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (Pty) Ltd as manager in the office of the CEO.


Cheree Dyers

Cheree joined Prescient Securities in September 2007 as part of Willie Venter’s equity research team.

She was previously employed at Prescient Investment Management as Head of Finance and Risk Management and served on the board of Directors. Cheree also worked in London for more than two years in the investment banking sector for Credit Suisse First Boston, Salomon Smith Barney and Banque Paribas. On her return to SA, she completed her post-graduate studies and joined KPMG in 2002 where she completed her articles in the financial services division and worked as an audit supervisor after completing her training contract.

She has a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours) degree in Marketing, a B.Com degree and post-graduate diploma in Accounting, all from UCT. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in South Africa and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Ryan Anderson

Ryan is a member of the JSE and has been involved in the financial markets as a stockbroker since 1986. He acquired his grounding in the bond markets at JD Anderson & Company and then at EW Balderson & Company and Edey Rogers & Company (1986 to 1992). In 1992 Ryan left Edey Rogers & Co to start the stockbroking firm Ryan Anderson & Co. Ryan was the CEO and a major shareholder of the company, until 1 December 1995, when the company was sold to NDH Bank and the name changed to Capital Alliance Securities.

The company became Brait Securities when Capital Alliance merged with Capital Partners in 1998. Ryan completed his employment contract as the CEO, which ran until the end of March 1999. During this time Ryan was responsible for the day to day running, risk management, company strategy, motivation of employees and liaison with the parent company Brait Bank.

Ryan started Prescient Securities in May 1999 and served as CEO until October 2007. Ryan remains intimately involved in the company but on a non-executive basis.

Herman Steyn (Non-executive Director)

Herman has been involved in the investment management industry since 1985, having held senior management positions in several established asset management companies.  He began his investment management career when awarded a bursary from Old Mutual, studying a B. Bus. Sc. majoring in Actuarial Science, Statistics (Honours) and Economics at the University of Cape Town, completing his B. BUS. Sc. (Honours) in 1984. After a period at Old Mutual, he co-founded an asset management company.

In 1993 Herman started the first index tracker fund, the Composite Unit Trust, in South Africa.  He later sold the unit trust management company to Investec, joining Investec Asset Management in 1995 where he established Investec Asset Management's international fund management capability, setting up their fund structures in Dublin. He was also responsible for the quantitative fund management that included local and international index funds, bonds, derivatives and asset allocation. In 1998 Herman founded Prescient Investment Management.


Adv. Wentzel Oaker

Adv Wentzel Oaker founded Rockland Investment Management as a niche asset management, advisory and fund monitoring company. Rockland is 100% black owned and managed; and fully registered with the Financial Services Board as an Investment Manager.

They represent a highly skilled and focused team, coupled with local and international investment management and corporate finance experience.
